"enter network password" in LAN
Hello i've just reinstalled XP on my internet routing computer (i have dsl usb modem that's routed towards my laptop through a LAN card) and when i try to access the desktop resources i get an nter network password" message. The shared drive is for everyone, i've even tried with firewall down, the laptop's Windows 7 that tries to access it sees it as a home network, all rights are allowed, file sharing services are on and all passwords are off. This never happened before using this combination of Windows 7/XP, but something similar happened a while back using Win 7/7 with a different behaviour. The Aspire is the name of the laptop. Domains are turned off on both computers and they're in the same network. help? zminin dot com

In the user name field enter 'domain\user name', for example if the server is called HomeServer then type in homeserver\User Name.

Hi, To allow sharing without password, you have to go in "networks and sharing center"->"advanced sharing parameters" then you have look at the "sharing protection by password" category and choose the "Disable" checkbox. Maybe some menu aren't in the exact spelling (my windows isn't in english).

Nope, advanced sharing says that protection by password is OFF. I can't save the network discovery as on though. I've had this problem before with advanced sharing settings not saving and i found no fix for it (this is Windows-7 related). I tried logging in on the server's domain as Administrator but with no success. I don't want to create password protected accounts on neither of the machines. I'm currently using ICS on the desktop server (bbc) routed to the client laptop (aspire). Thanks! I am not using domains nor homegroups (i'm managing the client's users rights manually). The desktop is using XP and has a drive shared with everyone under full permissions.zminin dot com
